There are many changes coming to this blog, beginning with how often I post and what kind of outfits I put together. I know no one has my style necessarily (obvs!), but idk, I want to try a bit of a different approach to things. I have a few exciting projects coming up that I can't wait to show you guys, so watch out for that!
So, what do you guys think of this coat? As uber amazing as I think it is, I feel that it is a bit too big for me, so I might be getting rid of it soon :( #shortgirlproblems...Follow me on Instagram @esmirnatapia so you make sure you don't miss out on any other pieces I will be getting rid of!
Happy (almost) Friday!

THROWBACK

DRESS | Topshop
SHOES | Forever 21
BAG | Rebecca Minkoff
SUNGLASSES | Wildfox Couture

Let me just say that when I saw this Rebecca Minkoff bag, I almost screamed. Scratch that. I kind of screamed. It is such a reminder of the little backpacks I owned from the early 2000s, don't you think? Though I am not sure where else besides NYFW I'd wear this outfit, it's always nice to frolick around the city pretending the streets are some sort of runway. Sort of crazy, right?
Anyway, my home is more than halfway unpacked; I can't wait to show you guys around! I feel so weird finally living in the same city as Alex again; it's been 8 months! Whoa.

If you know me, you know that most of the time on this blog has taken place in Calexico, California, a small place on such a large map that hardly anyone knows about. Calexico is a border town, connecting with the Mexican city of Mexicali just minutes away. This is where my father's side of the family partly grew up (Mexicali), so I have family on both sides. And this is where I would sneak off to in the early part of my twenties, especially after I met Alex at the only Starbucks around. Every Friday came and I'd take off, away from the hustle and bustle of the city that is San Diego, leaving people wondering why I'd leave such an "awesome" place to come to the scorching desert. I partly grew up here, and it's always nice coming back. A place where dreams have literally come to life...

Alright guys, so as you might have remembered, so much is going on (still!), both in my personal and work life that I have barely had enough time to catch up on my latest shows. I have so many new ideas for the blog, so I can't wait to pick up speed again! So here's a quick post to celebrate that we are finally all moved into our new place in San Diego and that it's the weekend! The chic sheath jacket was gifted to me from the babes at Missguided- did you like how I styled it?!

There are plenty of things I want to get done this year: keep growing the blog, learn how to take better photographs, be even more adventurous and go on at least one or two road trips (at the top of my list is Salvation Mountain), get over my fear of getting at least one small tattoo, meet more creative people I can collaborate with, and overall become a better person. With such drastic changes, there has been little time to really sit down and think about what I want to do or keep doing with my life. Now, this isn't some sappy article on how at my twenty-six years of my life I wish I had done more things differently, but more of a little reflection of what's to come.
What are your resolutions for 2015?
Speaking of new things, I was fortunate enough to work with the Tobi team again to bring you this jeweled lilac top! And look at that back! Such a steal!

I've got to say, Forever 21 recently stepped their game up with their outerwear this past fall/winter, and it was so hard to try to stop myself from going crazy buying them all. They had so many colors and patterns, it looked like pure heaven. Their lookbook featuring model Anja Rubik was over the top, and literally had me wanting more. The coat seen here was one of the ones I had my eye on when I was last at the store trying to find something Disney-related to wear for our trip to Disneyland. As it is online, it was on sale for $34.99 from almost $50. Honestly, I am not sure if I still would have bought it at that price, but my boss got me a gift card for our holiday gift exchange, so that helped (thank you, Faby)! Anyway, I haven't been able to get this off my back since I got my hands on it, mostly because it's very comfortable and goes with my wannabe homeless- MK & A look. What do you think of the warm and lace-y look? Such a juxtaposition of fabrics, I think I'm in love. Like Charlie Hunnam love. (Ahh!)

MISSED ME?

Happy 2015! I know this is (in the words of JoJo), a little too late, but there has been SO much going on lately, that I've had a bit of time to myself (which I use to try to deal with my life as much as I can)! To begin, during the week of Christmas, Alex was in Calexico, since he was already on a semi-vacation, and I worked up until the 24th (which you know if you're Mexican that we celebrate Christmas that night). We had a get together at my aunt's house there with my extended family. It's always the best times when we're all there. After much eating, taking pictures, and singing karaoke, the cousins, Alex, and I were in the living room just trying to recharge to go back outside to the cold. It all seemed a bit suspicious when Alex opens the door and brings in a small wrapped thing, though we claimed we wouldn't get each other's gifts this year. He hands it to me and my cousin and him start recording me on their phones, so I knew it HAD to be good. I didn't open it all the way when I saw part of the cover of an "Apartment Guide" booklet, and it clicked right away. "Did you get the job?!", I asked, since he had applied for a job in San Diego a few weeks back and hadn't heard back. He nods and I start screaming (while he's still recording, mind you), and jump on him. It then turns a bit weird for me because I start sorta crying. It was then that everyone frantically asked what was wrong. After telling them, they all screamed too, since it was finally back to how it used to be after 7 months of living apart. It was definitely a holiday for the books. The rest of the weekend was spent with even more family, and most of all, spending our nights with our cousins, including Leslie, who actually left to Hawaii again today. I think we bonded more, throughout the loud, never ending Hannah Montana Uno card games at Starbucks (which we were almost kicked out of for being TOO loud), to throwing Alex's surprise party for his birthday/graduation/new job. We resumed our regular jobs the next week, and came back to Calexico for New Year's, which was only fun because I got to eat more food. That Friday we all headed to Disneyland, and it was one last hurrah before coming back to reality and getting back to the grind.
One last good news- we got our own place in San Diego now! I'm excited to decorate and settle down into the life we have always wanted ever since we left to Arizona! I am ecstatic.
How were YOUR holidays?! Let me know here or on my Instagram @esmirnatapia!

PS. How chic is this red plaid coat from the gals over at Tobi?! Ugh, I've always a red plaid coat in my life, and this is the perfect new addition to my wardrobe! Such an iconic piece for sure!
